So, very recently, Maks and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary. It’s been so long since we’ve had a vacation so we (with the help of Bear, of course!) decided to go Chicago for a week!
Can I tell you how super fun it was??
It was super cold when we went (we also planned to go during Bear’s spring break), so we couldn’t really help when we could go. But we had a blast! It was a lot colder than we’d expected so there was an unexpected trip to buy hoodies and hats. That Chicago wind is no joke! LOL. We didn’t get to try the famous Chicago hot dog, but we did have the famous deep dish pizza at Giordano’s.
I am so in love with the Chicago culture and warmth. Just about everyone was so nice and warm. There were quite a few recommendations to go to certain places. We did visit the Ukrainian Village (of course we did!) and Bear got to see more this fair share of trains (of course he did!), but we didn’t get a chance to make our way to Bronzeville, but that will be next on our list for our trip!
We did go to the Willis Tower and to the Ledge. I’m not a fan of heights so I was more than a little scared! But I’m glad I did it just to say I did it. Bear, was fearless, as always. We did get to see The Bean, and I have to admit, I did geek out a little bit seeing it in person!
The one thing I will say I love about Chicago is how the city is so proud of its history and culture. I know L.A. is proud of its different culture (we’re more like a tasty salad than a melting pot), but there is really nothing in L.A. to signify that. It’s like each place as its own proud history but nothing congruent as a city as a whole.
We went to the Ukrainian Village and it was so beautiful! We ate at Old Lviv and frequented a few shops where I purchased some home items. We were also able to go to the Ukrainian museum as well.
We got around mainly by transit, Uber/lyft, and just plain old walking. Chicago is a very walkable city, which I love. I don’t recommend driving there as a tourist unless you know for sure where you’re going and it was rather confusing for us! But overall, I do recommend it! Can’t wait to go back!

Have you been to Chicago? What was your favorite part?
